Energy Radial Systems

In electricity supply, a radial circuit is an electrical wiring technique where power is transmitted from point to point by a single length of cable (usually 3 core 4.0mm2 or 6.0mm2 in diameter) linking each point to the next.

Description

In a single phase system, the radial circuit starts at the consumer unit connecting from one device (or socket outlet) to the next and simply terminates at the last connected device (or socket outlet). In some instances, it may branch at a connection point. This is known as a 'spur'. 

Lighting circuits are normally wired in this way, but it is also used for low power socket circuits or devices.

Standard conductor cross sectional area of 4 and 6mm2 are used in the radial system depending on the final circuit load. The protective earth conductor size is always the same size as that of the main conductors.
